The facet joints at the back of the spine can cause pain due to arthritis and inflammation.
The nerves supplying the facet joints (medial branches) can be injected with local anaesthetic using image guidance leading to short term pain relief. If this is effective in relieving your pain, you would then be a candidate for radiofrequency ablation of the nerve. This procedure causes destruction of the nerve and leads to longer term pain relief.

Vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive treatment for painful vertebral compression fractures caused by osteoporosis or sometimes metastatic cancer. Vertebroplasty is used when pain relief can not be achieved with medications alone.
How is Vertebroplasty performed?
Using image guidance the collapsed vertebra is stabilized with bone cement. This causes immediate pain relief and stops further collapse of the vertebra.
