PAE is a new minimally invasive treatment for enlargement of the prostate gland or benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). It was developed in Europe and recent published data show it to be effective in the long term.
How is PAE performed?
PAE is a 1 hour outpatient procedure performed under light (twilight) sedation. A 3mm tube is inserted into the groin or wrist and guided into the prostate arteries. Tiny particles are injected to block these arteries. Over time the prostate shrinks. The procedure is effective and causes no urinary incontinence or sexual dysfunction.
Dr Robertson works in consultation with local Urologists to determine who is most suitable for this procedure.

What is a Varicocele?
A varicocele is a collection of dilated veins in the scrotum. It is essentially a varicose vein of the scrotum caused by absent or non-functioning valves in the testicular vein that drains to the kidney vein.
Varicoceles can cause a chronic dull ache usually on the left side of the scrotum and can be associated with low fertility.
What is Varicocele Embolisation?
The procedure takes about 30 minutes. A 3mm plastic tube is placed in the main vein in the groin or right side of the neck and guided into the testicular vein which is then blocked using metallic coils and sclerosant foams. The patient can go home around 2 hrs after the procedure.
The procedure is as effective as the surgical alternative with shorter recovery time.
